A.B. Lord Fellow, 2015

Dr. Xiulan BaoThe Center for Studies in Oral Tradition is pleased to announce the fourth recipient of the A.B. Lord Fellowship in Oral Tradition, Dr. Xiulan Bao, who is Assistant Research Fellow, Institute of Ethnic Literature, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and will be in residence in Fall 2015. She received the M.A. from Inner Mongolia University (2007) and Ph.D. from the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (2010) completing her dissertation “Studies on Mongolian Literary Trends in the Late Qing Dynasty.” She has undertaken fieldwork and the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage in Baarin Banner and Arhurchin Banner, Inner Mongolia, with the Yugur people, Gansu Province, with Mongolian Epic singers, Qinghai Province, as well as collecting Mongolian Huurin Ulger, Holboo and folksongs. Her publications include “Studies of Mongolian Literature in China in the New Century” (2013), “On the Mongolian Poet Ishdanzanwangjil’s Poetic Creativity” (2013), and “The Historical and Cultural Origins of Ishdanzanwangjil’s Poetry” (2010). Her current research addresses the history and status quo of the epic traditions among the Mongolians.
