An eArchive of the World’s
Oral Traditions

The Center for Studies in Oral Tradition has produced a series of paper publications spanning more than two decades of interdisciplinary research and scholarship on the world’s oral traditions. Aimed at serving a broad academic constituency, these include the journal Oral Tradition (1986-) and three series of books: the Albert Bates Lord Studies in Oral Tradition (1987-96; 17 volumes); Voices in Performance and Text (1995-97; 3 volumes); and a new initiative, Poetics of Orality and Literacy (2 volumes to date; 2004-).

On September 15, 2006 Oral Tradition became eOT making the journal's contents available online and free of charge. Beginning with the special edition, “Bob Dylan’s Performance Artistry”, in March, 2007, Oral Tradition evolved into a purely electronic publication. During the evolution of eOT, CSOT began including eCompanions as part of the publication program. eCompanions supplement the articles that appear in the physical and virtual pages of the journal itself with such supplementary aids as streaming audio and video, photographs, and ancillary text-based items such as bibliographies and appendices.

This eArchive endeavors to assemble these materials for the purpose of producing a significant repository of oral traditions throughout the world.
